Your privacy
This page explains what happens to the personal information you give Brigantine Meridian when you read the magazine, write to the editorial desk or ask about one of our styling services. It is written for readers in Japan and follows the Act on the Protection of Personal Information, usually shortened to APPI.
Brigantine Meridian is a small swimwear and beach fashion magazine run from Echizen in Fukui Prefecture. We publish articles, and we offer a handful of optional styling services to readers who want a second opinion before a trip. We are not a shop, we do not run accounts, and we have no reason to collect more about you than a question needs.
The data we hold
Reading the articles needs nothing from you. There is no login, no newsletter signup and no comment box.
If you write to us through the contact form or by email, we receive the details you choose to type: usually your name, your email address, an optional phone number and the text of your message. If you ask about a styling session we may also learn when you are travelling, which beach or resort you are heading to, and the kind of swimwear you are considering.
Two of our services involve more. For a Resort Wardrobe Edit you send photographs of clothes you already own. Please photograph the garments, not people; if a face appears in a picture, tell us and we will crop or delete it. For a Personal Swimwear Styling Session you may mention sizes or measurements so we can talk about fit. That is always optional, and you can describe fit in words instead.
The company that hosts these pages may keep ordinary server logs, such as the time of a request, the page asked for and a network address. We do not read those logs to follow individual readers, and we do not add analytics scripts to the site.
Why we use your data
We use what you send for one purpose: to answer you and, if you ask for a service, to deliver it. In practice that means replying to your question, agreeing dates for a video call, preparing a written edit or destination brief, and sending you the result.
We do not add you to mailing lists you did not ask for, we do not use your messages to train anything, and we do not turn a question about a bikini silhouette into a sales campaign. If we want to use your words or photographs in an article, we will ask first and wait for a clear yes.
Cookies on this website
This site does not use tracking cookies or advertising cookies, and it does not load fonts, scripts or images from third-party advertising networks. The typefaces are served from this site itself.
When you close the small notice at the bottom of the page, your browser stores one marker in its local storage so that the notice does not return on every page. The marker contains no name, no address and no identifier. If you clear your browser data, the notice appears once more on your next visit, and that is the only effect.
Who else sees your data
Your messages reach us by email, so our email provider handles them on our behalf. That provider may store mail on servers outside Japan. Where that is the case, we choose providers that describe protections for personal information comparable to those required in Japan, as the APPI asks.
Beyond that, no one else sees your messages. We do not sell personal information and we do not lend it to advertisers, photographers or fashion labels. We would disclose information to a third party only where Japanese law requires it, for example in response to a lawful request from a court or the police, or where you have told us to.
Retention
We keep an email exchange for as long as we are working with you, and then for no more than twelve months after the last message, in case you come back with a follow-up question. After that we delete it.
Photographs sent for a Resort Wardrobe Edit are deleted once the written edit has been delivered and any follow-up questions about it have been answered. Records that Japanese tax or commercial law obliges us to keep, such as an invoice for a paid session, are kept only for the period the law sets.
Your rights under the APPI
You may ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, to correct it if it is wrong, to stop using it, or to delete it. You may also ask us to stop sharing it with a third party where we have done so.
Send the request to info@brigantinemeridian.com, and say which of these you want and which message or session it concerns. We will confirm that the request comes from the person it concerns, which usually means replying to the address you originally wrote from. We then respond without unreasonable delay. If we cannot do what you ask, we will explain why in plain words.
If you are unhappy with our answer, you can also contact the Personal Information Protection Commission of Japan.
Protection
We keep what you send in the mailbox and files used by the editorial desk, protected by passwords, and we limit access to the people working on your enquiry. We do not store your messages on this website itself, and the pages here contain no database of visitors.
No method of sending information over the internet is perfectly safe. Please do not put passwords, card numbers or national identification numbers in a message to us. We will never ask for them.
Younger readers
The magazine is written for adults. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian to write to us on your behalf before you share any personal details or photographs.
Changes to this policy
If the way we handle information changes, for example because we add a new service, we will update this page and change the date at the top. The version displayed here is the one that applies to you.
Who to ask
The party responsible for the personal information described here is Brigantine Meridian, 1-19-15 Shimoyamanaka, Echizen, Fukui 916-0226, Japan. The name of the individual or company that operates the magazine is available on request and will be given without delay.
Questions about this policy, and requests under the APPI, go to info@brigantinemeridian.com or to the telephone number +81 778-86-2571. Email is the better route, because it leaves a record for both of us.
